Advancing Pediatric Health Through Innovation and Collaboration
The Charles H. Hood Foundation, in collaboration with the MIT Health and Life Sciences Collaborative (MIT HEALS), proudly announces the establishment of the Hood Pediatric Innovation Hub. This groundbreaking initiative is dedicated to accelerating pediatric healthcare innovation, developing transformative technologies, and addressing critical unmet needs specifically in pediatric medicine.
The Hub leverages MIT HEALS’s interdisciplinary expertise and the Hood Foundation’s longstanding dedication to pediatric health to provide essential seed funding and strategic support for high-impact research projects. By bridging the gap between groundbreaking pediatric discoveries and real-world application, the Hood Pediatric Innovation Hub empowers emerging scientific leaders to deliver tangible health outcomes for children globally.
Addressing the Urgent Need for Pediatric Innovation
Historically, pediatric medicine has faced significant innovation gaps, with children often receiving treatments originally developed for adults. Only 10% of FDA approvals from 2008 to 2018 specifically targeted individuals under 18. The Hood Pediatric Innovation Hub aims to fill these gaps through focused, innovative solutions and dedicated research efforts, thereby shaping healthier futures for generations to come.
With over 80 years of pioneering pediatric health research and investments, the Charles H. Hood Foundation has committed $15 million over five years to the establishment and growth of the Hood Pediatric Innovation Hub. By providing both research funding and strategic investments through its venture arm, CH Innovations LLC, the Foundation ensures groundbreaking pediatric solutions reach patients effectively and efficiently.
An Ecosystem of Research, Education, and Advocacy
The Hub not only supports groundbreaking research but also strengthens the pediatric innovation community through extensive outreach, education initiatives, and advocacy. By collaborating closely with hospitals, industry leaders, patient advocacy groups, and regulatory bodies such as the FDA, the Hub actively promotes economically viable pathways for pediatric treatments to swiftly reach the children who need them most.
