The Charles H. Hood Foundation is delighted to announce that Camilia (“Cami”) R. Martin, MD, MS, has joined the Foundation as Chief Scientific Officer.
In this leadership role, Dr. Martin will steward and advance the Hood Foundation’s child health research portfolio, overseeing pediatric research awards and serving as a strategic scientific partner across initiatives, including the Hood Pediatric Innovation Hub. She will also lead efforts to strengthen and activate the Hood Foundation’s Alumni network while investing deeply in the development of pediatric scientists and innovators.
Dr. Martin is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in neonatal nutrition and metabolism and Professor of Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine. Her research has advanced scientific understanding and clinical care for extremely preterm infants, with a focus on how early nutritional exposures influence organ development, growth, and lifelong health.
She has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and delivered over 180 invited national and international presentations. Her work bridges mechanistic discovery and clinical application and has helped shape contemporary neonatal nutritional guidelines and standards of care.
Dr. Martin’s connection to the Hood Foundation spans many years — first as a Major Grant Awardee, then as a member and Chair of the Scientific Review Committee, and as an invited speaker at Hood Foundation-sponsored scientific events. Her longstanding engagement with the Foundation brings both continuity and vision to this new chapter.
